Trekking Overview

FLORES SPECIAL ADVENTURE. Drive, trek, walk and ride on horseback through the most spectacular coastline, un-spoilt inland villages, huge rain forests and mountain landscapes, wide green expanses savannah that filled with hundreds of half bred buffaloes, horses and caws, refreshing rinse in natural springs, mountain lake Tiwu Sora—the home of three colored giant eels to enjoy magnificent golden sunset and sunrise and so much more. Next day trekking through mountain tops with wide open views over villages, farming fields, spectacular Flores sea and Indian Ocean and as far as your eyes can catch till Kelimutu includes waterfalls and hot spring And in the nights interact and share experience with Adat Leader and his communities, eat local food and sleep overnight at villager’s house. This trekking trip last at Pantai Koka—great opportunity for snorkeling or swimming in clear crystal water or just lay down on white sandy beach. NOTE: Traditional Barter Market at Deturia Opens Every Wednesday from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. So if you start this trekking trip by Monday, you will have a great opportunity to see this market.


Day-to-day Trekking Itinerary

Day 1: MAUMERE - ARRIVAL (-/ -/ D). Upon arrival at Frans Seda airport of Maumere - Flores our local guide will meet you then transfer to Wailiti Beach Resort or Hotel Sylvia for meals and accommodation. Afternoon free program--you can do snorkeling or just relaxing on the beach while witnessing the magnificent sunset—it’s your free choice. At dinner time your guide will give you general information about tour itinerary includes all activities you can SEE, DO and DON’T during the outback trekking expedition.

Day 2: MAUMERE - DETURIA (B/ L/ D). Drive to Pise village with short stops at Kajuwulu beach for a short swimming, snorkeling or just relaxation on white sandy beach and at several selected view points for making picture until Pise. Pay a visit to Pise primary school--a chance to interact and observe how the basic academic life in remote area looks like. Start trekking to Deturia village with more stops to see and feeding buffaloes with salt, making pictures of horses, caws and buffaloes spreading out all over the wide expanse green savannah, beautiful rain forests and refreshing rinse in natural spring. In the night at Deturia interact and share experience with Adat Leader, eat local dinner and sleep overnight at villager’s house. 

Day 3: DETURIA - NUAWIKA/ RATENGGOJI (B/ L/ D). At 1,400 meters in height, Deturia offers a cool refuge from the warmer temperatures on the coast. This mountain trek leads through rainforests and an ever-changing array of vegetation specific to each altitude. Early morning trekking uphill to Mbotu Sora to have a spectacular view over Tiwusora lake, Flores sea, Kelimutu and its mate mountain Kelibara at far distance and the magnificent golden sunrise. Trek down to Tiwusora lake to see home of three colored giant eels by closer distance—local people believed to it as ancestors. Walk below the rainforests without making noise then you could watch birds and listening them singing beautiful rhythm. Mind your step from leaches suck your blood. Continue trekking up and downhill to Nuawika village passing through mountain tops, hillsides, valley, rivers, farming fields and rainforests while enjoying beautiful natural landscapes and listening to the song of nature (voice of birds, monkey, wild boar, and much more natural living things). Stop en route will be made at selected view points for making photo. Picnic lunch serves at half way. At one kilometer before we enter Nuawika village, the village leader together with a group of traditional musician and dancers will come and greet us. As new guest you will be having a welcome ceremony. Spend the rest of the day chance to dive deep into local culture and tradition through interactive and sharing experiences with villagers. Have local dinner while watching evening entertainments: traditional dances and folklore. Stay overnight at villager’s houses.

Day 4: NUAWIKA/ RATENGGOJI - DETUSOKO/ MONI (B/ L/ D). Today we trek up and down hill again until the Trans Flores high way. The landscape along the journey is so beautiful over looking down to north and south coast of the island. Stops for taking photo will follow with local happenings. Arrive at Trans Flores high way continue by car or bus to Detusoko or Moni. Detusoko is a small sub district town part of Ende region and this place is well-known to foreigners for its clean and quiet Franciscan Guest House. After lunch we visit Wolondopo—an off road village destination where you will see traditional houses and a naturally mummified body of the village founder namely Kaki More. Hike down back to the Trans Flores high way and on towards Detusoko. In the afternoon drive and hike down to Air Panas, a natural hot spring. Bathe and swimming in natural warm water pool--very nice especially after you had done such tough activities. Return to the guest house then have some afternoon coffee or tea while enjoying and listening to dances and songs to be performed by orphan children. The sisters here run an orphanage as to help accommodating orphans from nearby villages. Dinner and stay overnight at St. Franciscan Guest House—a mountain guest house with many different beautiful flowers at it surroundings.

Day 5: DETUSOKO - KELIMUTU - MAUMERE (B/ L/ D). Wake up very early in the morning at 4:15 am (if you decide to see the sunrise otherwise we depart a bit later), drive up to Mount Kelimutu. Arrive at parking lot start hike up to top for some 30 minutes to explore the three different colored crater lakes. Hike down back to parking lot then driving down till Forestry Guardian Post. From here we trek down to Pemo village, crossing the road to Kelimutu and back to trekking trail passing through mountain villages and waterfalls. Arrive at Moni get back into car or bus and drive towards Maumere with stop according to local happenings. At Koka beach—snorkeling or swimming in clear crystal waster or just relaxation on white sandy beach. Lunch served with Special “Ikan Bakar” (Grilled Fish) at Laris sea view restaurant in Paga. Diinner and stay overnight Wailiti Beach Resort of Hotel Sylvia in Maumere.

Day 6: MAUMERE - DEPARTURE (B/ -/ -). Free until departing time to Frans Seda airport for your flight to next destination. Our service ends!
